Year: 1944

Rating: PG

Director: Edgar G. Ulmer

Starring:

John Carradine

Country: USA

Label: Gold Ninja Video

In a 19th century Paris shrouded in fog, John Carradine stalks the streets as Gaston, an artist who strangles all the women who model for him. And when a potential new victim (Jean Parker) falls under his spell, the police must race against time to stop the serial killer before he extinguishes the life of yet another innocent soul.

Considered to be one of Edgar G. Ulmer’s poverty row triumphs, BLUEBEARD is a gothic shocker in miniature. It features one of John Carradine’s rare turns as a leading man, is beautifully photographed by Academy Award Winning Cinematographer Eugen Schüfftan (EYES WITHOUT A FACE), and is a prime example of the surreal style that made Ulmer one of the history’s great auteur filmmakers.

Gold Ninja Video is proud to present BLUEBEARD with several exclusive special features: A video discussion about John Carradine’s career, a visual essay on the artistry of Eugene Schüfftan, two bonus films directed by Edgar G. Ulmer, and much more!

ABOUT THE TRANSFERS

The Important Cinema Club Bargain-Bin Classics series is dedicated to preserving and celebrating classic cinema the way it was meant to be seen: in the bad, dupey prints that were prevalent in VHS and DVD bargain-bins in the early 2000s. The producers of this edition scoured out-of-print bargain-basement DVDs dating from the early 2000s to find just the right transfers: clear enough to be legible, but damaged enough to look like a local TV broadcast from the ‘60s.
